Tony will discuss all aspects of local and legislative redistricting in Wisconsin. He will also give an update on statewide municipal ward collections.
Tony Van Der Wielen served the Wisconsin State Legislature as the GIS Team Manager for the Legislative Technology Services Bureau (LTSB) for the past nineteen years. His role has been coordinating the technological aspects of State and Local Redistricting, performing the required duties as the state liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau, and managing daily GIS operations and projects at the LTSB GIS department.
Tony was selected to serve as the Technical Advisor to the Eastern District Federal Court regarding matters of redistricting in 2002. He was called to testify in front of the Legislative Committee on Legislative and Congressional Redistricting. He currently is a voting member on the State Agency Geographic Information Committee (SAGIC), Secretary and board member for the Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA), and a State Agency Representative on the Committee on State Cartography.
Tony earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical/Environmental Geography from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and has since received a post-baccalaureate certificate and a master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Pennsylvania State.
He is passionate about GIS and am committed to finding applied solutions to help better organize, coordinate and share our resources. Tony’s small GIS team has developed several applications built to help county and local government’s complete state and federal programs as quickly and efficiently as possible.
