Note from the President

Happy fall everyone! The leaves are starting to turn and colder weather is just around the corner.

Your WLIA Board has a busy couple of months ahead:
The recently signed 2017-19 Biennial Budget Bill creates a Next Generation 911 (NG911) Subcommittee of the Interoperability Council under the WI Department of Military Affairs. WLIA recently created a NG911 Task Force under the standing WLIA Committee on Technical Issues and Information Policy to support and act as a resource for an appointed member to-be-named on the NG911 Subcommittee (an individual recommended by an association of land information professionals).

This 19 member subcommittee will:
–  Make recommendations for changing the statutory authority of the Interoperability Council
–  Give a description of the progress made toward creating a statewide public safety interoperable communication system
–  Give a description of the obstacles that hinder the progress toward interoperability
–  Make recommendations for executive or legislative action to promote interoperability

A member of this subcommittee will be an individual recommended by a Wisconsin association of land information professionals. This member will server a 3 year term on this subcommittee. The NG911 Task Force will remain in effect until it is no longer needed to support our appointed subcommittee member. Please contact Tony Van Der Wielen if you are interested in being added to this task force.

New or returning college students: did you know that WLIA student membership is free? Find out why you should join WLIA.

The Education Committee has planned a terrific agenda for the upcoming Fall Regional Meeting. Please join us in La Crosse on November 9-10, 2017. Fall Meeting Registration is open! I hope to see you there!

It’s not too early to pencil in the 2018 Annual Conference on your calendar! We are back at the popular Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake on March 7-9, 2018. If you have an interesting presentation or workshop idea, please submit an abstract.
