Loss of a Colleague and Friend

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Mike (Myron) Bacon passed away on April 4, 2018. He was 87.

He spent his entire career with the state DOT, retiring in 1991 as Director of the Bureau of Engineering Development. In his professional life, Myron was a pioneer in the fields of data processing and GIS.

Mike was the chairman of the Sub-committee on Standards, of the WI Land Records Committee. The idea of a professional land records organization that would promote land records modernization in Wisconsin was derived from that Sub-Committee and championed by Mike before the Committee-as-a-whole.

The result was that WLIA was added to the Final Report of the Land Records Committee (LRC). He followed through as a member of the WLIA Bylaws Committee with Bill Nantel (Donahue Assoc.), Dave Stuck (City of Milwaukee Tax Assessor), Harold Charlier (Surveyor), and Al Miller to define the policies and goals that have guided this organization for more than 30 years. He also got the Wisconsin DOT involved, which added greatly to the legitimacy of the cause!

Mike will be greatly missed; he was a friend to many WLIA members.
