According to an article published by Wisconsin Public Radio, the nation’s second largest collection of maps recently celebrated 40 years at UW-Milwaukee! This milestone prompted a look inside the collection, which ranges from a 500-year-old map to digital applications.
The American Geographical Society Library was relocated from its home in New York to UW-Milwaukee in 1978. This year, the library is celebrating its 40th anniversary being housed within UW-Milwaukee, with a collection that comprises 1.3 million items, including about 550,000 maps, 625,000 images, and 220 globes and books, journals and atlases.
