The Wisconsin Land Information Association held its 32nd Annual Conference February 20-22, 2019. As part of the conference, WLIA recognized individuals and organizations for their significant achievements or service to the land information community.
The Department of Geography and Geology at UW-Stevens Point was presented with the 2019 Friend of Land Records Award.
The friend of land records award is given to an individual or organization that is not a WLIA member and has contributed to the success or advancement of land records modernization in Wisconsin.
What industry can survive without a sustainable stream of young professionals entering the workforce? Solving spatial problems can be extremely complex, even with today’s modern technologies like Geographic Information Systems (GIS.) The Department of Geography and Geology at UW-Stevens Point was one of the first programs to harness the capabilities of advanced geospatial software and data and combine it with the power of spatial awareness that is so fundamental to a geographer. This program has provided Wisconsin and the surrounding states with 100’s of its advanced geospatial professionals that understand how to apply geography to advanced software applications to solve complex problems. Many UWSP graduates have stayed in Wisconsin and not only use their skills in their day to day jobs, but have become leaders around the state and within WLIA.
Thank you Department of Geography and Geology at UW-Stevens Point!
