We are all in the land information industry but many of us have a focus to our expertise and we also have interests. Some of us share a common special interest and when we get together and assemble as a group we get our groove on. There you have it, a Special Interest Group, AKA, SIG. At our Fall Regional Meeting there will be three SIGs, Educators in GIS Network, Land Information Officers Network (LION), and Women in GIS – Wisconsin. All SIG meetings are to be held in the Main Meeting Room at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion, 2 East Front Street, Bayfield, WI 54814. As an added benefit all meetings are taking place at separate times without overlap so you won’t have to choose which one to attend. Feel free to get “SIGgy” at the Fall Regional Meeting and network with others who share your special interests.
The Educators in GIS Network
Are you interested in grooming the next generation of GIS professionals? Come join the Educators in GIS Network, a group dedicated to connecting teachers to GIS professionals, and GeoMentors interested in fostering geospatial thinking and problem solving at the K-12 level. The Educators in GIS Network SIG will be meeting on Thursday October 24, 2019, from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM.
The Land Information Officers Network (LION)
LION is a meeting of the Land Information Officers from around the state. LION was founded in 1999 to promote the understanding of the Wisconsin Land Information Program. Its members share best practices and support and learn from each other as our land information offices continue to develop and evolve. Even if you are not a designated Land Information Officer, or even the LIO alternate officer, this may be of interest to you if your department depends on land information office funding or work in an industry that those funds are spent within. This meeting is open to all and will take place on Thursday October 24, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Women in GIS-WI Special Interest Group
WiGIS-WI was created to collaborate with and encourage women in GIS and other related fields in Wisconsin. This group is open to those who would like to work in those endeavors. Members are invited to share experiences, articles, noteworthy items, and inspiration. This SIG event will take place on Friday October 25, 2019 between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM.
