As many conference attendees are registering for the 2020 Annual Conference in two weeks, be sure to sign up for workshops before they fill up. Below are some excellent morning workshop options!

Morning Workshop Sessions

Drones and GIS – Partners in Public Safety
9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (3 hours)
Christopher Litzkow – WI State Capitol Police

This session will cover the Wisconsin Drone Network and the resources they provide for public safety missions throughout the state. The presenter will provide information on how to add an unmanned aviation program for your business or agency, and will provide tips, tricks, and pitfalls to avoid. Drawing from the Drone Network’s experience of over 170 real-world drone deployments in Wisconsin since 2016, the presenter will show the value of a close partnership with GIS professionals. LiDAR 101
9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (3 hours)
Sonja Ellefson, Tyler Stentz – GPI Geospatial, Inc.

LiDAR is becoming common place in the geospatial spatial field, this workshop will cover the basics of LiDAR. First, there will be an overview of what LiDAR is, how it works, and the different types of sensors and their capabilities. Followed by an explanation of how the data from the sensor is processed, calibrated, and validated. Next will be a discussion of how the data is classified and the types of end products, such as DEM’s and contours, that can be generated from the data. It will also include a look at the many different products that can be created from LiDAR data. Lastly, there will be an overview of the many different applications that LiDAR can be used for and a discussion on how existing LiDAR data that you have can be re-purposed. The workshop will include looking at data from both fixed wing sensors and higher resolution data from static and mobile platforms. For more information check out the Workshop Flyer.
