Introducing Eric Passler – 2019 Damon Anderson Memorial Scholarship Winner

Eric Passler

University of Wisconsin – Whitewater

Eric is a Sophomore and is majoring in Geography with a minor in Environmental Studies. He is also pursuing a GIS Certificate. For Eric, job shadowing opportunities at ATC and Waukesha County helped turn a lifelong love of Geography into a career choice. Job shadowing shed light on how diverse the applications for GIS are and what it is like to be a GIS professional.

In addition to his study in the classroom, Eric received funding from the UW-W for an undergraduate research project. His project will study the potential impacts of climate change on Wisconsin’s outdoor winter recreation industry.

Anthropology is another of Eric’s interests and may lead him to pursue anthropology as a second minor. One of Eric’s favorite web apps is Harvard University’s Digital Atlas of Roman and Medieval Civilization’s Archeological Studies Application. Eric, “really likes the depth and detail it goes into” and invites you to check out the app for yourself.

Eric was interested in the WLIA scholarship for both the financial support as well as the non-financial benefits offered. Providing conference registration and the ability to meet and network with those already in the industry makes the Damon Anderson Memorial Scholarship “unique.”

When not in school, Eric enjoys running, camping and doing just about anything outdoors. He is preparing to compete in his first American Birkebeiner this winter.
