Important Social Activities Info for Ashland!
If you are participating in any of the social activities next week at the Ashland conference, be sure to read below for some key details!
Houghton Falls Hike (Free)
Sunday, May 17th, 12:00/1:00 PM
If possible, join us for lunch at Café Coco (210 W Bayfield St, Washburn, WI) at noon on Sunday and then carpool over to the falls. Otherwise, meet at the parking lot and trailhead at 34005 Houghton Falls Rd, Washburn, WI at 1:00 PM. Dress for the weather and bring your hiking shoes for this 1.5 mile hike!
Trolley Mural Tour ($5 Cash)
Monday, May 18th, 5:00 – 6:15 PM
If you registered for this, you're on the list! The trolley bus is full, but if you hoped to join us you may see if there are any no-shows the day of. Meet at the Hotel Chequamegon lobby by 4:50 PM on Monday. We’ll board at the east entrance to the hotel parking lot at 5:00. Don't forget to bring $5.00 cash!
Oredock 1k Walk (Free)
Monday, May 18th, 6:30 PM
Please join us as at 6:30 PM at The Hotel Chequamegon lobby to facilitate carpooling over to the oredock (or make the 15-minute walk to the oredock, your choice!). The parking lot is just east of the oredock at the end of North Stuntz Ave. If you ordered a neck gaiter, those will be available for pickup at the Hotel lobby so you can wear it on the walk (dress for the weather, and dress in fun active wear should you be so inclined!). Once at the oredock, we’ll walk the entire length and back (flat gravel and concrete walking surface), for a full 1k, then take a group photo.
Monday Night Dinner
If you are doing both the trolley bus tour and the oredock walk, you may want to eat dinner (or snack) during our break from 4:15 - 5:00 PM since the oredock walk won't end until 7:00 PM at the earliest. Do know that immediately after the oredock walk we have a couple groups you can join to dine (or just join for drinks!). The first dinner location is at the hotel at The Landing Restaurant. The second group option is at the restaurant adjoined to the South Shore Brewery: The Alley and The Deep Water Grille located at 808 W Main St. in Ashland. There is a bar in the center of these two restaurants. All are open until 9:00 PM that Monday night. Want other options? Check out some top picks in the conference story map.
The Union Jazz Dinner Social Night ($25)
Tuesday, May 19th, 5:30 – 11:00 PM
We'll enjoy the ambiance of the historic 1923 building while socializing - come dressed for either the 1920s or the 2020s (aka your regular clothes!). Dinner, featuring Lake Superior whitefish, or other dietary options, is at 6:00, and the live jazz band is from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Thanks much to Cultivate Geospatial for sponsoring!
